About the Project

MBTW was retained through the City's Roster Program in 2021 to design and implement a new spray pad for Woodlands Park. Through community engagement, a preferred conceptual design and was established (Nature and all its Creatures) that provided opportunities to incorporate Indigenous place keeping with the assistance of Niwasa Kendaaswin Teg and provide play features for autistic children that live in the local area. MBTW worked with city staff and members of Niwasa Kendaaswin Teg to develop the design which included a new spray pad with custom surface coating (representing the Red Hill Valley), shelter, seating and seat walls, dry and barrier-free play features and Indigenous interpretive elements related to language. The spray pad construction was completed in 2024 with a Grand Opening expected in June of 2025.
